Ukraine Initiative
During the 2021 - 2022 school year, the Student Ambassadors of the Canastota Central School District had the opportunity to create a fundraiser to support the people, and in particular, the children, of Ukraine.
Students planned and implemented a drive selling sunflowers for donations, with the money earned being sent to Ukraine.
Students were in constant communication with the Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko. Vitali Klitschko was a multiple heavyweight world boxing champion and a 2018 inductee of the International Boxing Hall of Fame. He communicated regularly with the ambassadors, talking about the events of the war with Russia and thanking them for their efforts to help. The Ambassadors had a direct connection to what was happening in war-torn Ukraine, while events were occurring.
Close to $5000 was raised by the Student Ambassadors.
