As a junior member of GLAS, you will have an opportunity to gain emergency medicine experience, under the direction and supervision of a paramedic/EMT, while serving your community. 

Trained junior members will aid paramedics and EMTs in patient care and, upon turning 17, may take a class to become a certified EMT.

 

Students will receive stackable digital badges as units of study are completed to showcase skills learned.

 

Junior EMS Opportunities By Age

Age 14
Students may start pre-service badging at school.

​

Age 15
Students may apply for junior membership at GLAS.  To apply, a student must show a report card average of at least 75, and must complete an application and provide references.  The application must be voted on by the membership.  Many activities are resetricted util the member turns 16.

Age 16
GLAS Junior Members who are properly trained may ride the ambulance as an Aider.

​

Age 17
GLAS Junior Members who are active and in good standing may enroll in NYS EMT Training Course, sponsored by GLAS.

Age 18
Upon graduation and turning 18, Junior Members may be voted into full membership.

​

Becoming a Member:

  • You must be 14 – 18 years old

  • You must be in good academic standing, with a 75 or higher report card GPA

  • You must complete a membership application and provide three (3) references

  • Your completed application will be voted on by the membership


Member Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete crew certification

  • Obtain and maintain CPR and defibrillator certification

  • Maintain a 75 or higher GPA

  • Serve a minimum of six (6) hours per month, only during these hours:

    • 3 pm – 9 pm  -          Monday – Thursday

    • 3 pm – 11 pm  -          Friday

    • 8 am – 11 pm  -          Saturday

    • 8 am – 9 pm   -          Sunday

    • 8 am – 11 pm   -         On vacation and snow days unless the next
      day is a school day, then permissible time period ends at 9 pm

  • Behave and dress appropriately (agency shirt, dark pants, closed toed shoes) while on crew

  • Attend training and membership meetings

  • Additional information regarding membership policies and procedures can be found in the agency policy handbook and will be explained to you once you become a member
