Technology has transformed education and the workplace. How we learn and recognize learning must also transform.  The Canastota Central School District recognizes this need and has established a Micro-Credentialing Program.  Micro-credentials are a natural extension of the learning environment students engage in every day. They empower students to drive their learning and provide them with valuable career and college readiness skills necessary for success.  The credential provides evidence where a third party certifies the acquisition of a skill or set of skills by someone. Employers and colleges will look favorably on this additional credential.

Benefits of credentialing:

  • Students earn micro-credentials, or “mini degrees”, when they have demonstrated competency in specialized skills that meet both industry and state/national academic standards by completing student competency records.

  • Digital badges are visual representations, like mini digital diplomas, of all micro-credentials earned.

  • Access to digital badges will be available to potential employers, colleges, trade schools, and organizations that issue scholarships in student “digital backpacks,” or e-portfolios.

  • Credentials created within industry clusters can be used interchangeably and flexibly – individual organizations can mix pre-constructed credentials with company/job specific credentials.
